7.4.2.4 Relationships/Partnerships with Indigenous Communities
An ‘Indigenous community relationship’ is a business relationship formed between an Indigenous community and an external corporation or organization. This type of relationship is based on mutual benefit, where both parties collaborate on or in pursuit of economic projects or ventures. These relationships are typically characterized both by short and long-term commitments and are focused on fostering economic development, benefits and employment within the Indigenous community.
The relationship the market must recognize is the relationship that is formed between the community and its partner in whatever formal or informal method they decide to present. The important part is that benefits and opportunities are produced and provided to the Indigenous community through this vehicle.
These relationships are important for Indigenous communities as it extends their capacity and participation in projects where otherwise a missed opportunity could exist. These relationships can be catalysts for broader economic growth within the community.
Each Indigenous community relationship must have its community affiliation recorded.
